NCAA football betting fans have loved wagering on the SEC division one conference since it was founded in 1932. As one of the older college football betting conferences, the SEC has played host to some of the most classic games in NCAA history. Here is a history of one of the most illustrious divisions in all of sports.
The SEC Conference also known as the Southeastern Conference is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. It is made up of 12 teams, and is one of the richest conferences in the NCAA. Since 1990 it has averaged an astounding six BCS games and $110.7 million in revenue distribution amongst its schools.
Moreover, the SEC was founded in December of 1932 with 13 schools from all over the Southeastern United States. Of the original 13, 10 still remain in the conference today. The 10 original members include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt State. The three former members include, Sewanee who left in 1940 and is now a division three school, Georgia Tech who is now a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference after a long hiatus from sports and Tulane, who left in 1966 and then joined the Conference USA in 1995.
In 1991, the SEC expanded from 10 to 12 members with the editions of Arkansas and South Carolina. Further, in 1992, the SEC became the first conference to ever be allowed to hold their own conference championship game. With the conference being one of the only at the time to have 12 members, two divisions were formed and the winners of each division then faced one another to determine the conference champion. Initially, the game was held at the Legions Field in Birmingham, before being moved to its current home at the Georgia Dome. |

Preakness betting enthusiasts also handicapping the NFL should consider switching to the NCAA this season, as the pro league doesn't look close to ending the lockout. With spring workouts already starting up, here is a look at a few teams that could have a sports betting chance at winning the National Title in 2011 - 12.
Oregon Ducks - After losing the National Title game by four points in January, the Oregon Ducks led by Head Coach Chip Kelly, have taken to the practice field promising to come back bigger and stronger than ever. Save for a few seniors, the Ducks return basically the same squad that came within four points of winning the school's first ever National title. For the most part, many of our colleagues feel that LaMichael James will once again be the center piece of Oregon's offense. However, in our humble opinions, it is quarterback Darron Thomas that will need to duplicate last year's numbers at the very least to even stand a chance at guiding the Ducks to another National Title.
Oklahoma Sooners - The Oklahoma Sooners like a fine wine enter the NCAA Football season as the team to beat. They weren't even a part of the National Title conversation last year, but when your offense leads the entire league with an average of 87 offensive plays a game, you need to be a part of any top ranking conversation. Led by the quarterback and wide receiver combination of Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles, the Sooners look poised to run rampant on the Big 12 this season. Aside from Jones and Broyles, the Sooners are one of the deepest teams in the entire NCAA on both offense and defense. Complimenting the tandem on defense are speedsters running back Roy Finch, and wide receiver Kenny Stills. Stills as a freshman was able to catch 67 passes as the third wide receiver, telling us all how deep the Sooners really are. |

Every once in a while online sports betting fans are able to watch one player absolutely dominate the specific sports league they are wagering on. From Albert Pujols torching the MLB betting online community over the last decade, to Sidney Crosby lighting up the NHL, fans have seen it all. In college football, that star player was Tim Tebow, a quarterback who made Florida football what it is today. However, we are always looking for the next big thing, and here are three pivots that could be bigger than Tebow by the time their college careers come to an end.
- Taylor Martinez Nebraska Cornhuskers - With Nebraska set to debut a new coaching staff to compliment Bo Pelini, current junior quarterback Taylor Martinez could be the beneficiary of the change in personnel. Similar to Auburn alumni Cam Newton, Taylor Martinez can both throw and run the ball. Last season, Martinez threw for 1161 yards with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 12 games. However, on the ground, like Newton, Martinez was incredible. He ran for over 900 yards while scoring 12 touchdowns. If Martinez can learn how to hang on to the ball longer when throwing, he may emerge as one of the best players of the 2011-12 seasons.
- Darron Thomas Oregon Ducks - Despite missing out on a National Title victory during the 2010-11 college football seasons, Darron Thomas proved to the NCAA football world, that Oregon's quarterback situation was just fine without Jeremiah Masoli. While his running back LaMichael James gets all the publicity, it is Thomas who is the true catalyst for the Ducks offense.
For instance, this past season, after spending two years as a back up to Masoli, Thomas like Aaron Rodgers, stepped into the limelight and didn't appear to be out of place. He threw for over 2800 yards while passing for 30 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. If he wasn't playing with LaMichael James or against Cam Newton, Thomas would have been the Heisman Trophy winner last season. |

In just a matter of months, college football betting enthusiasts waiting for their favorite teams to take the gridiron won’t have to wait any longer. The 2011 – 12 football seasons, marks the beginning of the new NCAA. New in the sense, that several sports betting teams have moved to different conferences this year, in order to form super conferences. Today we will be previewing what remains of one of the conferences most affected by realignment, the Big 12.
Entering the 2011 season, the Big 12 conference, actually shrunk to 10 teams, as Colorado defected to the Pac 10 and Nebraska transferred to the Big 10. The new Big 12 conference will no longer have two divisions, as they will now play a round robin tournament within inter-conference play to determine the conference champion to qualify for the BCS Bowl series.
The remaining members of the Big 12 are Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. On paper, the teams that most breeders cup betting fans will bet upon in the modified Big 12 are Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Texas is a couple of years removed from the Colt McCoy Jordan Shipley era and has been a team in transition ever since. Despite losing Colt McCoy to the NFL last season, the Longhorns big dilemma is on the defensive side of the football rather than offensive side. In 2010 the Longhorns went five and seven, with the defense failing to stop the oppositions pass game. This year with a gluten of new recruits, the Texas defense could be one of the most feared.
On the other hand, the Oklahoma Sooners should be a team on everyone’s radar for BCS National Title winner. Led by Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma has one of the scariest offenses of all time. The defense is also incredible, which in turn has allowed for Oklahoma to form a mini dynasty. |
