BCS National Title Preview

On January 10, 2011 the most highly anticipated BCS National Title game in NCAA football betting history will take place, as the undefeated Auburn Tigers take on the undefeated Oregon Ducks. The game will feature 2010-11 Heisman award winners Cam Newton and his college football betting top ranked offense against the Oregon Ducks, top ranked defensive unit. While Newton essentially won the Heisman based on the final weeks of the regular season, when he guided Auburn to wins over two of the nation's best teams in Alabama and South Carolina, the Oregon Ducks may be Newton's greatest test yet.

During the regular season, both the Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers offenses were considered the best in the nation. Both offenses have an explosive speed game, and over the course of the season averaged the most amounts of points in the NCAA.

For instance, the Oregon Ducks offense led by quarterback Darron Thomas and LaMichael James was able to put up an average of 49.2 points a game. However, the Auburn Tigers led by quarterback Cam Newton proved to be just as capable at putting up points, as they averaged an astounding 42.7 points per game.

Yet it should be noted that if the Ducks defense which was considered the top defense against the pass this season, can stop Cam Newton, the Ducks should be in line for a win. However, stopping Cam Newton and actually doing it are two completely different concepts. This season, Newton similar to former schoolmate at Florida, Tim Tebow, was the best player on a deep team. Newton averaged 2589 yards, while rushing for 1409 yards.

As well, Newton has proven that planning to stop him and accomplishing that plan are easier said than done as he proved against Alabama in the Iron Bowl this year. Recall, the defense was able to contain Newton for the first half of the game, as the Crimson Tide led 21 to nothing. But in the second half, Newton came alive, rushing for over 200 yards, while passing for almost 300 yards in a come from behind 28-27 victory.
